Just a quick post as I wondered if anybody else was aware of, or is using the Serial Reader app on your phone or Tablet? I just discovered it - can't remember if I read about it on Facebook or Twitter - but it's a free app available on iOS or Android - that delivers a variety of classics to you that you choose, on a daily basis in small easy chunks! Click here to go to their website to find out more!
The average reading time of each segment they send your way is about 15 minutes, depending on your reading speed of course, but it was designed for people who say they don't have time to fit in reading a classic. Well now there is no excuse as I'm sure we all spend just 15 minutes a day scrolling through facebook and twitter staring at stuff we don't have any interest in!
There's a wide variety of books available from Jane Austen, to the Bronte sisters, to Charles Darwin and Arthur Conan Doyle. Click here for the full list of books currently available.
So I downloaded the App on my phone a couple of days ago, and then chose The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman - only 24 pages long in real terms, but that computed to 2 segments of 15 minutes that I could read on my phone and I found the whole process quite enjoyable! And quick!! And a fascinating read too!So I've now downloaded War of the Worlds by H.G.Wells as my next read and that will be delivered in 23 'issues'! I'm hoping that this kind of app will help me fit in more Classics reading and not feel
It's also another way to stop me feeling the urge to go out and buy more books to add to my already overcrowded shelves and I'm looking forward to discovering some different Classics amongst old favourites!
Would love to hear your thoughts on these kind of Reading Apps - and what Classics should I be adding to my 'must read' lists!
