So over to you Helen.......
Summer at Serenity Bay by Helen Bridgett
I’m originally from the North-East of England but over the past few years have lived all over the country. Last year I moved back and was reminded just how beautiful the coastline is up here. Northumberland really does have some of the most spectacular beaches in the world and the sky is truly spectacular. So when starting my novel, Summer at Serenity Bay, I knew it had to be set here. I wanted to create a story about a wellness retreat and if anywhere can make you feel better – it’s the sea.
My two main characters – Chloe and Roisin – are best friends who’d do anything for each other. They’re close enough to dish out home truths and some tough love but ultimately they’re in this together. I love the outdoors and believe that a walk along the clifftops or a day out cycling can make you feel absolutely fabulous so the wellness retreat in my story is based on these principles. We have a good laugh at some of the more bizarre wellness trends that are out there and I’m afraid some celebrity fads are well and truly ridiculed!
The setting is fictional but typical of many villages here. Northumberland was invaded by Vikings back in AD 793 and they landed in Lindisfarne first. I was fascinated by this so decided that my village would have a Nordic history. I discovered that the old Norse word for serene was kyrr so named the village Kyrrby, or Serenity Bay, and I took the liberty of making the main love interest Thor-like; tall and blond with a love of the sea. If the book is ever made into a film, I definitely want Chris Hemsworth playing that role!
Summer at Serenity Bay is a feel-good adventure. I hope readers escape for a while and emerge with a huge smile on their faces and a desire to come and see our beaches. I’ll look forward to meeting you!
About the book:
What happens when you send a group of celebrities to a tiny seaside village?
Advertising executive Chloe Walsh thought she was visiting her friend Roisin to get away from it all, but little does she know her kooky friend has a master plan to breathe some life into her sleepy seaside village through a new wellness retreat – and she needs Chloe’s skills.
So starts a community effort to put the retreat, Serenity Bay, on the map. Everyone from Andy at the Surf Shack to Tony at the chocolate shop is involved – even Roisin’s Gran has a few ideas!
But Chloe strikes gold almost too soon, attracting the attention of a major production company. Now a colourful group of celebrities are preparing to descend on Serenity Bay to film a reality TV show. Is the village ready for the fun and scandal that are bound to follow?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Having failed miserably with every New Year's resolution that involved diets, one year, Helen Bridgett set herself a completely different goal - to write a novel and give it as a Christmas present. Her first novel, The Mercury Travel Club was born and the laugh-out-loud characters took on a life of their own resulting in the sequel, The Heat is On. This year, a new set of characters take up the main stage in Summer at Serenity Bay - a fictional village on the glorious Northumberland coast. Outside of writing feel good fiction, Helen loves being outdoors walking with the dog and enjoying a glass of wine and banter with friends.
